What is the Opiate Task Force?
The Clermont County Opiate Task Force is a partnership whose mission is to minimize opiate misuse, distribution, addiction, overdose and death in Clermont County. We encourage all citizens to join us on the second Thursday of every month from 2-3:30 p.m. at our monthly meeting. Please check the calendar of events for the location. We need a community to help fight this crisis.

Our History
The Opiate Task Force was formed in June of 2013 after the State of Ohio declared Clermont County a “hot spot” for opiate abuse and unintentional opiate overdoses. The Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services and the Ohio Association of County Behavioral Health Authorities provided funding to start the Task Force.

The Task Force is designed to bring community members and resources together from all sectors affected by opiate issues to help develop solutions to the problem. Community sectors involved in the Task Force include representatives from the following:

  • Government, at the federal, state, county and local level
  • Law enforcement and the courts
  • Fire and EMS
  • Health care providers; hospitals; behavioral treatment centers
  • People in recovery, families, faith-based organizations, and grass-roots advocacy groups
  • Non-profits
  • Businesses
  • School districts
  • Concerned citizens

Our Purpose

  • Provide a structure for community response to the opiate epidemic
  • Engage our community to develop and pursue a unified goal
  • Coordinate and facilitate local prevention and educational trainings for our community
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of the response to the opiate epidemic

Our Action Plan
The Task Force finalized its Action Plan in 2016 to guide our response to the epidemic.  The Task Force identified the following broad goals:

  • Increase the availability of treatment
  • Prevent opiate misuse
  • Reduce the harm caused by the opiate epidemic
  • Cut the supply of opiates in Clermont County
  • Advocacy to get the funding we need to fight addiction

Each goal area has objectives that we are focusing on.  These goals form the basis of our subcommittees. If you would like to learn more, please contact Lee Ann Watson at the Clermont County Mental Health and Recovery Board: lwatson@ccmhrb.org
